STANDING COMMITTEE NEWS

PUBLISHING/COMPUTER COMMITTEE
Shirley J. Glasgow

The Confederate Courier is published twice a year during the month of February and September to provide members information from the Division Officers, Chapter and Committee News. I enjoy receiving Chapter News, but please keep in mind to limit the length of your chapter news as articles submitted too lengthy will be edited to fit one page.

Due to the expense of printing, a copy of the newsletter will be emailed and a copy mailed to each chapter president. Each Chapter President can make copies for all members or ask your chapter members to go on line to the Division webpage www.ncudc.org and print out their own copy. Presidents please keep your address with zip+4 and your email address current, so you do not miss important information mailed to you. Send to Shirley J. Glasgow,

Weldon Cemetery Committee
Martha Denton

The much anticipated dedication ceremony of the Memorial Monument at the Weldon Confederate Cemetery will be held Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 2:00 PM of the Memorial Monument at the Weldon Confederate Cemetery at the end of First Street in Weldon, NC. Period attire is welcomed.

If your group would like to present a memorial wreath during the ceremony please contact Martha Denton, Chairman by Wednesday, September 30th.

Patriotic Committee
Pat Gasson

Pat Gasson is NC Division Patriotic Committee Chairman and your Chapter VAVS reports should be sent to her for Veterans Affaris Volunter Service.

UDC General Patriotic Activities Chairman is Miss Betty Faye Lewis of Waldo, AR. The appointed Representative then appoints her deputies to serve with her. Miss Lewis stated the appointments for Representatives are indefinite. Each hospital has a representative that lives near a hospital and the Rep can then appoint three deputies to serve with her.
Miss Lewis has given me the following information so hopefully members can contact their VA Representatives and Deputies to determine what their local VA Hospitals have on their wish list. Miss Lewis feels this committee is so large it should be a separate committee once again as it was several years ago, instead of operating under the Patriotic Committee Chairman.
There are four VA Medical Centers in North Carolina.
1.  Asheville – 1000 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805
Representative Alice Bradley - Deputies, Roberta Harris & Betty Jo Darr
2. Durham – 508 Fulton Street, Durham, NC 27705
Representative: Nancy McLean – Deputies Nell Schrader & Ruthann Bond
3. Fayetteville -  2300 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301
Representative Etta Mae Rouse - Deputies   Robbie Moye, Eleanor Fields & Fanny Widener
4. Salisbury – 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144
Representative Sue Curtis – Deputies Mary C. Patnaud, Jacqueline H. Quigley
  & Sandra C Boyer

Detailed and contact information will be printed in the upcoming minute book so members will know who they can contact to see how their chapter can help the Veterans Medical Centers across the State.
