Joseph H. Cash 2647 proudly sponsors the Brave Young Joe Cash 942 CofC Chapter in
Butner. BYJC members are very active in the Division with three of their members having
served back to back as NC Division Presidents CofC. The chapter thanks the UDC chapters in
Granville and Durham Counties that have been constant supporters of the children’s
chapter.

Chapter member Emily Champion serves as NC Division President has been on the go as she
completes the first year of her administration.

January 19, 2009 chapter members celebrated the Lee-Jackson-Maury birthdays at their
monthly chapter meeting with birthday cake and refreshments. A program was presented of the
historic deeds of each General.

Two of our chapter members Faye Craft and Erma Wall are suffering through cancer
treatments, and our chapter continues to support them with prayers and cards. We pray you
both get well soon!

Chapter members Emily Champion and Shirley Glasgow attended the Confederate Memorial
Service at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh Saturday May 2, 2009. Emily in her capacity as NC
Division UDC President brought greetings from the Division.

Chapter members Shirley Glasgow, Mary Ann Keith, Dot Watson and Paula Thompson were
honored to assist the Pvts. Lorenzo L. Bennitt and Robert F. Duke SCV Camp 773 of Durham
in the Confederate Memorial Day celebration and the unveiling of 40 replacement Confederate
Veterans Markers at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC Sunday May 31, 2009. Chapter
member Emily Champion serving as NC Division President UDC brought greetings and was a
keynote speaker.

UDC and NC Division sadly mourned the death of two real NC daughters this UDC year.
Chapter members attended the funeral service of Real Daughter, Margaret Langley McMaster
October 2008 in Greensboro (Guilford 301) and Real Daughter Nora Hartman Linder (Robert
F. Hoke 78) May 31, 2009 in Salisbury.

Chapter members Emily Champion, Shirley Glasgow, Paula Thompson and Mary Ann Keith
attended Massing of the Flags in Richmond June 6, 2009 where our NC Division UDC
President Emily Champion presented the NC State Flag as we all joyfully joined in singing â
€œThe Old North Stateâ€�. After the service members visited Hollywood Cemetery where
the President General UDC laid a wreath in honor of the 101st birthday of Jefferson Davis
CSA President. The next day the members traveling by bus to the Confederate Memorial
Service at Jackson’s Circle for the celebration of Jefferson’s 101st birthday in
Arlington National Park. Dallas Champion, husband of our Division President, escorted Emily
Champion to present the NC UDC wreath. Afterwards those traveling by bus to Washington
enjoyed a box lunch on the portico of Arlington House, the home of the Robert E. Lee family,
which is presently undergoing renovations.

Emily Champion and Shirley Glasgow traveled to Florida for the General CofC Convention in
Orlando Florida July 16-18 at the DoubleTree Hotel at the entrance to Universal Studios-
Orlando Florida with their grandchildren. Emily’s granddaughter Victoria Hughes served as
NC Division CofC President and delivered an excellent Division Report. The five Brave Young
Joe Cash 942 Chapter members who attended the Convention were Jessica Glasgow, Kara
Goss, Dylan Hughes, Victoria Hughes and Gracie Shepherd. Also attending with the children
was Grandparents Dallas Champion and JT Glasgow, and parents Rick & Janice Glasgow.
