| NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION 3RD VICE PRESIDENT Shirley Glasgow I returned from the Annual UDC General Convention in Rogers Arkansas on November 12th feeling so very proud of our CofC Chapter Directors for their hard work this past year, which allowed me to receive the UDC General award, the Kathryn Noble Wilcox Loving Cup for the Division Director making the best annual report. The Arkansas UDC chapters were great hostess for the convention. Miss Rebecca L. Widowski, President General, CofC has set her 2007-2008 theme “Let Us Remember DAVIS” in motion. Members were asked to remember Davis on the anniversary of his 200th birthday by planning special celebrations on June 3, 2008. Becka has emphasized that we must increase membership in the CofC, as each year membership has continued to decline. Please encourage your neighbors, grandchildren, nieces’ and nephews to join the great organization of Children of the Confederacy. Other projects are the continuation of raising money for Beauvoir and the “Let US Phone Our Thanks Project” for our service personnel serving in Iraq. Kara’s Division project for the year is to collect used cell phones, which will be exchanged for paid phone cards which the soldiers can use to phone home. Please bring those used cell phones to the Division Convention to help the CofC with the veteran’s project. Miss Kara Goss, NC Division President, CofC has been quite busy. Kara presided over the called Annual CofC Executive Committee meeting Jan 6, 2007 at the UDC Headquarters house in Raleigh, NC to discuss plans for the coming year. Kara has chosen for her theme “Climb on Board with the CofC, which supports the President General, CofC project of increasing membership in the CofC. All chapters are working hard to get new CofC chapter members. Mrs. Ruthann Bond, NC Division UDC President invited Kara Goss, Division President, CofC to bring greetings to the UDC members on Historical Evening at their Annual NC Division UDC Convention held in Rocky Mount, NC on Oct 5th. CofC chapters are holding elections, collecting dues and preparing their year end report. Please remember to collect enough funds for your CofC Chapters to make annual contribution to Division and General fund to be incompliance as a non-profit entity. Also, all chapters are required by the IRS to file the EZ 990 income tax form at the close of your chapter’s fiscal year regardless of income this year. The Annual NC Division CofC Convention will be held in Greensboro April 26 at the Downtown Greensboro Marriott, and hosted by the Lizzie Lindsay and Burke Davis CofC Chapters. The CofC Annual General Convention will be held July 24-26 at the Holiday Select in Fredericksburg, VA. Hope to see everyone at both conventions. I thank all of you that have shown concern and sent get well cards as I continue to overcome my bout with those horrid shingles. |
